Honam Rapid Transit Railroad is a part of the KTX in Korea and extends from Yongsan Station in Seoul to Songjeong Station in Gwangju. After having completed the basic plan for the project in August, 2006, design was executed over 3 years prior to the commencement of the construction in May 2009. The operation of this railroad began on April 2, 2015. Honam Rapid Transit Railroad (Honam KTX) was constructed for the purpose of balanced growth of the country, particularly, the activation of economy in the regions of Chungcheong and Honam. It is a mega-scale national policy project with the total length of 182.3km and total budget of 8.33 trillion Won to link the Osong Station with Gongju Station, Iksan Station, Jeongeup Station and Songjeong Station in Gwangju.
Seoyoung Engineering was in charge of the execution design of the Sectors 1 & 2 (alternative design) and the Sector 4 among the Seoul~Songjeong, Gwangju Line. We executed the design under the slogan of “Towards the most outstanding railway, the Honam Line, that will run with the hope for the future by carrying the beautiful scenery of the regions including undulating hills, peaceful fields and clean rivers” by considering the geological conditions of the land on which Honam KTX is being constructed.
With the commencement of the Honam KTX, the traveling time between Yongsan, Seoul ~ Songjeong, Gwangju was shortened from 2 hours 39 minutes to 1 hour 33 minutes (average of 1 hour 47 minutes). As a result, half a day life zone that was previously limited to the regions around the Gyeongbu Axis was expanded to the entire country.
